Voki

I had a great time using Voki to create an animated character video. I decided to use the program's punctuation character to create an elementary video about sentence types and punctuation.

I think Voki is a great tool for educators. I could imagine this being used for younger students who enjoy animated characters, but I could also see Voki being especially useful for older students (middle and high school) learning about historical figures.

I think Voki could become even more useful in education if the developers add more characters and perhaps allow voice-overs that exceed 90 seconds in the future. Still, even with these limitations, Voki has so much potential as a form of multimedia educational technology!

Prezi

I used Prezi to create a "Meet the Teacher" presentation for an elementary classroom. This presentation would be shown to parents and students on Meet The Teacher night or at Open House. In this presentation, I incorporated images of myself (the teacher), the classroom setup, and the materials used in the classroom. I also included YouTube videos that discuss the classroom's unique methods.

I think Prezi can be very influential in educational settings. In high school, I had a History teacher who used Prezi for his lessons. Although History was my least favorite subject, the lessons were engaging and fun to watch. Compared to PowerPoint or Google Slides, I think Prezi has more potential when it comes to student engagement. I remember my 9th-grade History lessons more vividly than I remember other high school lectures—because my teacher used Prezi.

The Miami Water Crisis

Google Slides

My partner and I used Google Slides to create an educational presentation that brings awareness to the Miami Water Crisis. We incorporated images, graphics, and a video that will help viewers understand the topic. We also employed a number of design elements, including contrast, empty space, and alignment.

Like PowerPoint, Google Slides is an accessible, simple presentation tool. I believe it is especially useful in educational settings. I have personally used Google Slides in a number of courses, and I have always regarded it as a very useful tool. The ability to work collaboratively is ideal for a number of environments. Teachers, administration, and even students can use Google Slides independently or with peers to create a well-designed presentation.
