Rumii is defined as "a social-virtual reality space that enables people to collaborate and communicate in one room from anywhere in the world" (Steam).

I used Rumii to create a virtual room that could be used in educational environments. Rumii is useful in education because it is ideal for multimedia instruction. In my example, I included audio, pictures, 3D models, drawings, and PDFs. I would be interested to use this in a real virtual learning environment!

During this module, I became significantly more familiar with the different types of XR. One thing I found interesting is fusality—the "fusion of real and virtual realities" (Gautam et al., 2018). When I used to think about VR, I thought of it as its own entity without realizing that it can be fused with reality to make a more meaningful experience. I think this is especially useful in education. Overall, what I read this week exposed me to the different types and uses of XR, and I feel like I now have a better understanding of how it can be implemented.

I would enjoy using XR for elementary education. Although I think any grade can benefit from XR in the classroom, I am most familiar with 2nd/3rd grade, and I think this age group would fully enjoy and benefit from XR. I could see this being very exciting for science and social studies especially. Being able to experience certain concepts and topics in XR would be exciting and memorable for elementary students.

As with many emerging technologies, I could imagine issues arising with veteran teachers who are reluctant or unwilling to learn how to implement new technologies—teachers who are "stuck in their ways," if you will. If teachers are not open to new technologies (such as XR), students will not benefit. Both teachers and students need to be on board with XR, in my opinion. If I were the administration for a school implementing XR, I would make sure to offer substantial training to ensure everyone is knowledgeable about the technology.
