EME 3044 - Issues and Trends in Educational Technology

In this course, I studied critical issues and trends in the ever-growing field of Educational Technology.

EdTech is constantly evolving. New computer programs and software are being developed and incorporated into instruction. New ideas are influencing how and why we use certain technologies in education. EdTech is not what it was 10 years ago, and it is not what it will be 10 years (or even just 1 year!) from now. This fact is why it is so important to stay up-to-date on emerging technological trends.

I am specializing in EdTech at the University of Florida, so this course is naturally relevant to my goals. I found this course especially pertinent as an aspiring instructional designer. The first module of EME 3044 introduced me to the ADDIE model of instructional design, allowing me to expand my knowledge of the field while further developing my instructional design skills. Throughout the modules, I stepped out of my comfort zone and designed a VR classroom, published an Open Educational Resource, developed a Game-Based lesson plan, and even wrote a cover letter for my dream job. I cannot identify a sole project that was more beneficial or enjoyable than others—simply because every project allowed me to become more fluent in EdTech and develop skills that will be directly relevant to my professional aspirations.
