EME 2040 - Introduction to Educational Technology
EME 2040 - Introduction to Educational Technology
This course has allowed me to develop the foundational skills in Educational Technology that I will need for the rest of my career. My success as a teacher and as a future instructional coordinator relies heavily on the technological aspects of education, so I could never advance in my field without a solid understanding of Educational Technology. I expect to utilize the tools discussed throughout this course—such as photo/video editing software, digital storytelling programs, and productivity tools—for the rest of my career in education. In fact, I've already needed to use these tools in my current teaching job.

Productivity tools in particular are essential to teaching. Every teacher I know uses them in some shape or form. I've always used word processors, presentation programs, and other digital tools in my classroom, but when my traditional classroom became a virtual classroom this year, I began using these programs even more. Without a physical classroom, I needed to make adjustments to my entire class structure. This is when Educational Technology became essential to my job. I began using productivity tools, as well as digital storytelling programs and editing software, to create interactive presentations for my students to watch online. Almost all of my lessons were created using Microsoft PowerPoint, Apple Keynote, or Google Slides. While many of my lessons were presented live (using Zoom), I also needed to create pre-recorded video lessons for certain students. In this case, my ability to navigate video editing software programs like iMovie and Final Cut Pro X became a life-saver. In the future, even when I am no longer teaching virtually, I am certain that I will continue to use these tools to enhance my teaching.

This ePortfolio contains projects that I created using a variety of digital tools. Each project has helped me establish, develop, or review a number of technological skills. While I was familiar with certain programs before taking EME 2040 this summer, some programs were completely new to me. I am glad that this course introduced me to software like Adobe Photoshop, Powtoon, and Google Sheets. I imagine that I will be able to utilize these programs in the future.
